Summer Updates
Hello everyone! It’s been a busy Summer for me, as I am sure it’s been for many of you, too. I’ve been travelling a bit again, which feels good. Living on Vancouver Island is idyllic in many ways, but I’ve been craving a connection to the larger world to create a sense of balance and access inspiration.
As always, I’m contemplating astrology, reading, and continually developing. Lately, I’m finding my ideas are coming to me in my imagination in a sub-verbal form. My painting practice, though always constant to some degree, has really taken off. My smaller-scale works are starting to get larger and appear on canvas. I’ve got my sights on applying for a gallery show sometime in the new year, which is an exciting goal.
With painting becoming increasingly my astrology expression and the sunny summer days calling, I’m shifting into a more simplified approach to writing about the cosmic weather.
In-person Readings
I've been offering in-person astrology readings in the city for the last year as a response to some local interest and a curiosity to try this out again. While I enjoy these face-to-face connections, I need to focus on my art and other projects, so I'll be shifting my focus back to online readings for the fall and winter. I’m feeling the call to minimize my drive into the city where I can during the darker months of the year.
For those on Vancouver Island, there are three more in-person Saturday dates available through my website at starfruitastrology.com before I take a break from offering these for a while:
August 24
September 14
September 28
Online readings will continue on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
LEO SEASON 2024
Leo Season 2024, which runs from July 22 to August 22, is a time when the Sun shines brightly in the bold and courageous sign of Lion. This time of year encourages us to step into our power, express our desires, and embrace the warmth of summer's peak.
WEEK I:
July 22: Sun enters Leo and opposes Pluto
As the Sun enters Leo, it immediately opposes Pluto in Aquarius, setting the stage for a profoundly transformative period. This transit invites us to confront our shadows and embrace personal growth. With Pluto's energy focusing on collective transformation, we're encouraged to balance our individuality with the needs of the greater good.
It's a time to release old patterns and embrace a more authentic self, even if it means facing uncomfortable truths.
July 25: Mercury enters Virgo, and Sun sextile Mars
On July 25, Mercury moves into its home sign of Virgo, sharpening our minds and bringing a keen focus on details and practicality. This transit is perfect for organizing our thoughts and making plans.
With the Sun sextile Mars later that day, we are empowered to take decisive actions. This supportive aspect boosts our confidence and drive, making it an excellent time to tackle projects requiring precision and courage.
WEEK II:
August 2: Venus Square Uranus
As we move into the second week of Leo Season, Venus in Leo squares Uranus in Taurus on August 2. This electrifying aspect shakes up our relationships and creative pursuits. Expect the unexpected as Uranus prompts us to break free from the routine and embrace innovation. While this energy can be unsettling, it's also a chance to explore new ways of expressing love and creativity.
Keep an open mind and be willing to take risks, even if it means stepping outside your comfort zone.
August 4: New Moon in Leo, Venus enters Virgo, and Mercury goes retrograde
August 4 is a day of significant cosmic weather. The New Moon in Leo invites us to set bold intentions and embark on new creative ventures. Amid a fiery, active Summer, this dark lunation is a chance to cool down and rest. It's also a powerful time to align with our heart's desires and reflect on our unspoken inner passions.
Venus also transitions into Virgo on this day, bringing a more discerning and practical approach to love and beauty. A more demure and less spicy energy than Leo, this shift into receptivity encourages us to focus on the finer details in our relationships and personal aesthetics.
Simultaneously, Mercury stations retrograde in Virgo, prompting a period of reflection and review. Mental energy and focus turn inward, encouraging contemplation and adaptation over advancement. While Mercury retrograde often comes with challenges in communication and technology, it also offers a valuable opportunity to revisit and refine our plans.
You can use this time to reassess any writing projects and allow emerging ideas more time to incubate, exploring how to materialize them with depth and beauty.
WEEK III:
August 7: Sun sextile Jupiter and Mercury rx conjunct Venus
On August 7, the Sun in Leo forms a sextile with Jupiter in Gemini, creating a wave of optimism and expansion. This positive aspect encourages us to embrace opportunities for growth and learning. It's an ideal time to share ideas, collaborate, and broaden our horizons with clarity and confidence.
Whether pursuing new projects or seeking to expand your knowledge, this transit supports a spirit of adventure and exploration.
Meanwhile, Mercury retrograde conjoins Venus in Virgo, highlighting meaningful conversations and reflections on relationships and creativity. This conjunction encourages us to revisit past discussions, clarify misunderstandings, and deepen our connections. It's a moment to express appreciation and work through any lingering issues thoughtfully and analytically.
How can we artfully attend to the gardens of our hearts, pruning and healing with loving consideration?
WEEK IV:
August 14: Mars conjunct Jupiter and Mercury rx reenters Leo
The final week of Leo season brings dynamic energy as Mars in Gemini conjuncts Jupiter on August 14. This powerful combination amplifies our enthusiasm and drive, inspiring us to act boldly. However, it's essential to temper this energy cautiously, as the amplified energy can sometimes lead to overconfidence or impulsiveness.
You'll be able to focus on channelling this vitality into constructive endeavours that serve your growth and align with your highest values.
Still retrograde, Mercury reenters Leo, encouraging us to revisit themes of self-expression and authenticity. It's a great time to refine our creative projects and ensure they genuinely reflect our inner passions. This transit also highlights the balance between how we communicate our true selves with being of use in the world.
What vital part of ourselves have we left behind in the interest of belonging? This fiery retrograde shift will remind us not to dim our shine.
August 15: Mars square Saturn rx
On August 15, Mars squares Saturn, bringing a reality check to our ambitions. The edgy, frictive connection between the planets of conflict and burdens marks a make-or-break moment collectively and personally. This challenging aspect highlights the need for discipline and perseverance. While it may feel like running into obstacles, this transit teaches us valuable lessons in patience and responsibility.
Embrace this time to reassess your strategies and build a solid foundation, channelling frustrations into determined efforts to overcome limitations. This transit also encourages us to examine which limitations need to be respected.
August 18: Mercury rx square Uranus, Sun conjunct Mercury rx, and Venus square Jupiter
Mercury retrograde squares Uranus as the final week of Leo Season progresses, sparking unexpected insights, upsets and changes. This aspect can disrupt well-laid plans but also bring opportunities for innovative thinking. Stay flexible and open to new perspectives, as surprising developments can lead to breakthroughs.
The Sun conjuncts Mercury retrograde in Leo, a moment of clarity known as a Mercury cazimi. This conjunction offers a chance for deep self-reflection and understanding, a powerful mental reset and decluttering. It's a time to align your thoughts with your core heart-deep values and gain a clearer sense of direction.
Venus in Virgo squares Jupiter in Gemini, challenging us to balance practicality with our desires for growth and pleasure. This aspect can amplify indulgence, so staying mindful of excess and maintaining a grounded approach to love and finances is crucial.
August 19: Venus opposite Saturn rx, Sun square Uranus, Full Moon in Aquarius, and Jupiter square Saturn rx
The culmination of Leo Season arrives on August 19 with a series of potent aspects. Venus opposes Saturn, highlighting themes of commitment and responsibility in relationships. This aspect can illuminate challenges or limitations, urging us to take a serious look at our partnerships and ensure they are built on solid ground.
The Sun squares Uranus, creating tension between our desire for freedom and the need for stability. This aspect encourages us to break free from outdated perceptions and embrace change, casting light on possibilities outside the box.
The Full Moon in Aquarius illuminates themes of community and collective transformation. This powerful lunation invites us to reflect on our roles within the larger social fabric and consider how we can contribute to positive change. Emotions will likely run high in the collective, drawing out our most potent feelings around what we envision for our world.
How can we feel for each other’s humanity across ideological divides? Can we refocus on how we are similar and unified in our vulnerability and struggles rather than the differences that will eternally divide us if these are the only focus?
The last significant aspect of Leo Season and one of the biggest transits of the year is Jupiter’s square with Saturn Rx. This aspect comes around less often due to the longer cycles of these powerful celestial teachers. Jupiter square Saturn emphasizes the need to balance expansion with caution. It highlights the tension between growth and structure, reminding us to take measured steps toward building what we hope will endure long term.
In Gemini, Jupiter wants us to improve how we think, communicate and formulate new ideas. The twin emblem of Gemini points to ideas and concepts that can either divide us or operate as interdependent poles of a whole entity.
In Pisces, Saturn teaches us how to build upon empathy and the importance of self-sacrifice for the collective good, illuminating a need for discernment and wisdom when acting from a vulnerable position.
In a square-aspect relationship, Jupiter and Saturn bring these themes to a peak, testing us to rise to the occasion at a pivotal time in our society and the world beyond.
This big transit is of paradigm-shifting proportions and deserves more attention. I’ll try to write about it in more depth soon.
